The Chief Engineer will be responsible for overseeing all maintenance and repair activities of mechanical and electrical systems within the property. This role requires a strategic mindset to maximize system reliability and longevity while managing a team of skilled professionals. Key responsibilities include supervising facility equipment operations, developing operating procedures, implementing energy conservation programs, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of progressive operations experience, with a strong background in managing large building portfolios. The role requires various certifications, including stationary engineer licensing and universal refrigerant recovery certification.

Responsibilities For Chief Engineer
- Supervise performance and maintenance of mechanical, electrical and craft services
- Oversee facility equipment and systems operation
- Develop operating instructions and procedures
- Prepare operating budgets for Engineering Department
- Implement and conduct training programs
- Establish and maintain operational testing schedules
- Administer preventative maintenance system
- Monitor and supervise subcontracted jobs
- Implement energy conservation and management program
- Ensure compliance with local laws, codes and regulations
- Develop and maintain work order system
- Establish performance standards
- Manage and allocate work responsibilities among subordinates
Requirements For Chief Engineer
- 5+ years progressive operations experience
- Experience managing operations at large portfolio of buildings
- Strong knowledge of electrical, UPS and emergency power systems
- Highest-level relevant state/local license for Stationary Engineer
- Universal level refrigerant recovery license
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Computer skills and building automation systems experience
- Working knowledge of energy conservation
- Strong employee relation skills
- BOMA accredited courses (desirable)
- High-rise Fire Safety Director certification (preferred)
- LEED Certification (preferred)
- Indoor Air Quality Certification (preferred)
