Description For Sr. Sensor Architect, OPD Hardware

Amazon Lab126 is seeking a Senior Sensors Architect to join their team. In this role, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative consumer products. You will work closely with an internal inter-disciplinary team and outside partners to drive key aspects of product definition, execution, and testing.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Architecting sensing systems into world-class devices and cutting-edge prototypes
  • Owning end-to-end sensor architecture definition and development
  • Interpreting customer requirements to develop technology specifications
  • Performing sensor technology selection and addressing all aspects of technology readiness, including manufacturability
  • Leading prototype and proof of concept developments
  • Investigating emerging technologies and helping mature them for mass-production
  • Collaborating with design teams to develop sensor subsystem designs
  • Building relationships with component vendors and overseeing manufacturing partners
  • Establishing robust processes and methodologies to deliver technology to products

A typical day might involve:

  • Working with product teams to develop new solutions for future Amazon devices
  • Evaluating and selecting sensing solutions to meet product requirements
  • Reviewing hardware designs (e.g., CAD, schematics, layout)
  • Providing input on sensor placement and architecture
  • Exploring new sensing capabilities to deliver new user experiences
  • Running data analysis and making design trade-off decisions
  • Investigating new sensor architectures to improve customer experience, reduce cost, or add new features

  • Architect sensing systems into world-class devices and cutting-edge prototypes
  • Own end-to-end sensor architecture definition and development

Requirements For Sr. Sensor Architect, OPD Hardware

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years' experience as a hardware engineer with majority focus on sensors
  • Sensor depth and breadth in a combination of: Optical, Inertial, Environmental, Bio-chemical, Ultrasonic, Thermal
  • DFx (Design for cost, test, manufacturing) experience
  • System level integration experience including hardware/software interfacing, fixture design, sensor testing and troubleshooting
  • Functional knowledge of analog design blocks including filters, PLLs, oscillators, charge pumps, DACs, ADCs etc.
  • Experience with Schematic Capture and PCB layout tools such as Allegro
