Come work on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Edge and Specialized Hardware (ESH) test development and automation team. We are seeking a Senior System Development Engineer to join our AWS Hardware Engineering (HWEng) team that creates server designs for Amazon's innovative web services. Our team owns, develops, and delivers the tools and infrastructure enabling Edge, Outposts, Specialized Hardware, and Archival Storage platforms.
As a Sr. System Development Engineer, you'll be working on critical infrastructure that powers AWS's edge services and Outposts, delivering data processing, analysis, and storage close to endpoints. You'll be part of a diverse team of software and system engineers, collaborating across AWS to maintain the highest standards for quality, safety, and security.
The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of the full technical stack from hardware to software, with a strong interest in cloud-scale operations. You should excel at systems debugging, finding interaction issues between server components, and developing tactical solutions to diagnose and fix issues. Leadership skills, strong organizational abilities, and excellent communication are essential.

Responsibilities For Sr. System Development Engineer, AWS Hardware Development
- Lead the System Development effort to define and build software and enabling tools
- Develop automation to improve ESH platforms
- Author requirement documents for new architecture
- Publish comprehensive design docs along with trade-offs
- Software development, testing and building diagnostic tools for continuous monitoring
- Debug and root cause complex server platforms
- Work with other subject matter experts in compute, memory, storage technologies
Requirements For Sr. System Development Engineer, AWS Hardware Development
- 5+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
- 6+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 6+ years of designing or architecting of new and existing systems experience
- 6+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience
- Experience with x86 architecture, as well as ARM, and FPGA devices
- Experience with modern technology devices in network, memory and interface standards
- BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant work experience
