Google's Workspace Intelligence team is seeking a Distinguished Engineer to lead their AI initiatives across their suite of productivity tools including Meet, Chat, Gmail, Drive, and Docs. This role sits at the intersection of cutting-edge AI technology and practical business applications, focusing on delivering ML-based features that enhance user productivity. The position requires a technical visionary who can architect systems that power AI features throughout Workspace products while maintaining high quality and meeting data governance requirements.

The role involves working with Google's machine learning experts and researchers to implement state-of-the-art technology, while managing cross-functional execution across multiple products. The ideal candidate will provide technical guidance to thousands of engineers and work closely with Product Engineers across Workspace.

The position offers a competitive compensation package including a base salary range of $323,000-$465,000, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits. The role requires deep expertise in AI/ML, particularly in generative AI and LLMs, with 15 years of software engineering experience or 13 years with an advanced degree.

As a Distinguished Engineer, you'll be responsible for technical architecture, infrastructure development, and establishing processes that enable rapid deployment of high-impact ML features. This role combines technical leadership with strategic thinking, requiring both deep technical expertise and the ability to drive innovation at scale.

  • Lead the technical long-term strategy for Workspace AI while working directly to deliver infrastructure, tools, processes, and features
  • Build deep partnerships across Google and incorporate the best technology for Workspace AI with awareness of research and industry trends
  • Support our technical teams in delivering our roadmap on committed timelines
  • Identify high-value areas for investment and build execution paths to bring them to market

Requirements For Distinguished Engineer, Workspace AI
