Staff Backend Engineer - Databases Upstream

Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join their Databases Upstream team, working on their industry-leading observability platform. This remote position, based in the UK, offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to major open-source projects including Prometheus, Mimir, and OpenTelemetry.

The role sits within the Databases team, which is responsible for operating critical telemetry databases that power Grafana Cloud - a composable observability platform used by over 3,000 companies worldwide, including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay. The team works with cutting-edge technologies like Mimir for metrics, Loki for logs, Tempo for traces, and Pyroscope for profiles.

As a Staff Backend Engineer, you'll be working on distributed systems implemented in Go, operating at scale on Kubernetes across major cloud providers. The position offers a blend of open-source development, performance optimization, and production system maintenance. You'll be involved in code reviews, design discussions, and participate in on-call rotations.

The role requires strong programming skills (preferably in Go), experience with cloud development or systems engineering, and a solid understanding of DevOps practices. You'll need excellent communication skills as you'll be working in a remote-first environment and occasionally meeting with customers.
