Honeycomb, a Series D funded observability platform named in Forbes' America's Best Startups, is seeking a Staff Security Engineer to join their remote-first team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the security foundation of a rapidly growing company with 200+ employees, serving notable clients like HelloFresh, Slack, and LaunchDarkly.
The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical work, requiring expertise in application security and enterprise-level security program development. You'll be instrumental in establishing security standards, performing reviews, and implementing tools while working closely with Product and Engineering teams.
The ideal candidate brings a diverse security background, combining application security expertise with incident response capabilities and full-stack engineering experience. You'll need to balance enterprise customer security expectations with practical implementation, while maintaining the ability to adjust priorities as needs evolve.

Responsibilities For Staff Security Engineer
- Contribute to the long-term roadmap for Security Team
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering partners for security reviews
- Partner with colleagues to determine and implement security tools
- Act as a force multiplier through working with engineers to develop threat modeling skills
- Partner with Engineering, Product, and IT organizations in cloud-native environment
- Contribute code to internal applications and services
- Respond to information security issues in tech stack
- Engage with the security community
Requirements For Staff Security Engineer
- Interdisciplinary experience within the security field
- Experience scaling to Enterprise customers
- Comfort with adjusting expectations
