Job Description
Karat Financial, a company that powers creator businesses, is seeking an Engineering Leader to join their team. This role involves leading a small, distributed engineering team, contributing to system design, writing production code, and ensuring technical standards are met. The Engineering Leader will partner with product, design, and operations teams to define and ship high-impact features. Responsibilities also include establishing best practices around system design, testing, security, and deployment, as well as driving alignment across engineering and product. The role involves creating a technical roadmap, helping with recruitment, and acting as a thought partner on product strategy.
The compensation for this position ranges from $180,000 to $200,000 annually, with potential equity. This is a hybrid role based in Los Angeles, CA, with in-office days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The team size is approximately 22 employees, fostering a high-agency culture and direct impact on business outcomes. The tech stack includes Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, and AWS (Cloud).

Responsibilities
- Lead by example — writing production code, owning system design decisions, and setting technical standards
- Partner with product, design, and operations to define and ship high-impact features
- Build and mentor a small, distributed, high-performing engineering team with a culture of collaboration and accountability
- Establish best practices around system design, testing, security, and deployment
- Drive alignment across engineering and product on priorities, tradeoffs, and execution
- Create a technical roadmap that balances immediate business needs with long-term scalability
- Help recruit, onboard, and develop engineers who thrive in a fast-paced startup environment
- Act as a thought partner to leadership on product strategy, technical architecture, and company growth
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 2-3 years in a leadership or managing role
- Comfort leading from the front, designing systems, writing code, and shipping features
- Prior product management experience or a strong product sense with the desire to flex into PM responsibilities
