Description For Outside Plant Telecom Engineer

Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is seeking an Outside Plant Telecom Engineer to join their team. This role is crucial in designing and engineering outside plant routing for Microsoft's metro and longhaul connectivity requirements. The position offers flexible work arrangements with up to 100% work from home options. As part of CO+I, you'll be instrumental in delivering core infrastructure for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. The infrastructure spans over 200 datacenters in 32 countries, serving more than 1 billion customers worldwide. The role involves working with Metro Dark Fiber, Long-Haul Fiber, subsea, and Lit Wave circuits, while collaborating with Sourcing teams and fiber providers. Microsoft emphasizes personal and professional development, offering various growth opportunities including Career Rotation Programs and professional certifications. Responsibilities For Outside Plant Telecom Engineer

  • Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspects of datacenter activities
  • Outside Plant (OSP) optical Design, Planning and Engineering for new and existing regions
  • Communicate with all peers and departments to ensure optical designs meet Microsoft and Industry standards
  • Maintain accurate cable records and updates
  • Approving vendor designs, conducting site walks, permitting, and performing quality assurance inspections
  • Reading and understanding highway/road prints, identifying conflicts with existing outside plant facilities
  • Optical fiber test results analysis for Microsoft's metro, regional fabric, and long-haul networks

Requirements For Outside Plant Telecom Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
  • 2+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Experience reading and/or writing code (preferred)
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
