Description For Staff Data Engineer

SimpliSafe is seeking a top-notch Software Engineer to join their Data Platform Team. This role involves designing, implementing, testing, deploying, monitoring, and supporting new and existing modules of the Data Platform. The ideal candidate will work directly with external companies, internal engineering teams, analysts, and data scientists to provide or consume data and analytics. The position offers the opportunity to build something brand new in a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and building SimpliSafe's Data Platform for analyzing growing amounts of data
  • Working with AWS or another cloud environment
  • Utilizing AWS CDK or other Infrastructure as Code technologies
  • Programming in Python
  • Experience with orchestration tools like Dagster, Prefect, Airflow
  • Optimizing SQL for various databases
  • Taking features through all stages of development
  • Designing scalable, resilient, and secure services
  • Interacting with product owners and users

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Experience with AWS or another cloud environment
  • Proficiency in Python or willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of common network protocols
  • SQL optimization skills
  • Experience in agile software development
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly

Additional desirable skills include:

  • Experience with Tableau and other data visualization tools
  • Experience building and productionalizing ML models

  • Experience with common network protocols such as HTTPS, SFTP
  • Experience with optimizing SQL for various databases
  • Experience in taking features through all stages of development
  • Experience in designing scalable, resilient and secure services
  • Experience in interacting with product owners and users
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Practitioner of lean or agile software development principles
