Description For Electromechanical Product Design Engineer

Tesla is seeking an Electromechanical Product Design Engineer to join their Electrical Distribution Mechanical Design Team. This role is crucial in reinventing how electronic systems and devices are assembled in Tesla products. The engineer will work on designing mechanical components and mechanisms related to electrical connections, conductors, assembly aids, and vehicle integration parts. They will develop novel technologies and manufacturing techniques, perform thermal/structural modeling, build prototypes, and work with cross-functional teams to develop and validate new designs. Recent projects include the 48V distribution system and connectivity in the Cybertruck.

  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling (CATIA experience valued)
  • Detail-oriented personality with solid documentation skills

Responsibilities For Electromechanical Product Design Engineer

  • Design mechanical components and mechanisms related to electrical connections, conductors, assembly aids and vehicle integration parts
  • Develop novel technologies and novel manufacturing techniques
  • Perform thermal/structural modeling of components and systems
  • Build prototypes and perform functional validation in both laboratory and prototype vehicles
  • Work with cross functional mechanical engineering and integration teams to develop functional systems
  • Work with electrical engineers and PCBA designers to integrate components into electro-mechanical systems
  • Work with test and reliability engineers to validate new designs in accelerated testing
  • Work with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to transition concepts to production

Requirements For Electromechanical Product Design Engineer

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated successful experience in mechanical engineering including part design and in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die casting, stamping, extrusion, etc
  • Demonstratable mechanical engineering fundamental knowledge
  • Detail oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling, CATIA experience highly valued but not required
  • Ability to travel 10-15% of the time
