Tesla is seeking a multi-faceted Mechanical Engineer for the role of Fleet Root Causing Engineer. This position is responsible for identifying, analyzing, root causing, developing/designing, and implementing countermeasures for issues affecting various vehicle systems like Exteriors, Interiors, Lights, Body, IP, etc. The Fleet Root Causing Engineering team's mission is to improve customer experience of Tesla products by eliminating fleet issues, collaborating with various engineering teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring product field performance
- Identifying trending issues
- Prioritizing based on severity, occurrence, or cost of each failure mode
- Conducting detailed failure analysis and root-cause identification
- Implementing countermeasures in production, design, supplier, and firmware
- Communicating field performance and gathering buy-in from peers and leadership
- Working closely with multiple Tesla Engineering Teams, International Production Teams, and Service Teams
- Participating in continuous improvement activities and design reviews
The ideal candidate should have:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant industry experience
- Outstanding mastery of engineering and physics fundamentals
- A passion for Tesla's mission, root causing, and bug fixing
- Experience in "repairing stuff," tinkering, and experimenting
- Broad technical background and ability to work across various issues internationally
- Exceptional problem-solving, failure analysis skills, and analytical thinking
