Description For Technical Program Manager, Power Electronics

Tesla's Power Electronics group is seeking a highly motivated Technical Program Manager to lead new and existing engineering projects for Energy, Solar, and Vehicle products. This cross-functional role requires coordination between various groups within and outside Tesla.

You'll be deeply involved in the design engineering process, guiding projects from concept through prototype validation and production ramp. Your engineering background will be crucial in understanding product requirements, technical risks, and validation strategies to accelerate development. You'll communicate project status, highlight schedule risks, and develop recovery plans when needed.

Daily, you'll interact with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, compliance, system test, reliability, supply chain, and operations. You'll define and drive new product programs while managing changes in existing ones. The role demands a high degree of autonomy and contribution to improving organizational productivity.

Based in Palo Alto, California, you may need to travel to Gigafactory 1 (Reno, NV), Gigafactory 2 (Buffalo, NY), or vendor sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage program baselines, schedules, critical paths, and technology risk areas
  • Communicate development updates, risks, and timelines to cross-functional teams and executives
  • Overcome obstacles creatively while meeting deadlines
  • Develop automation tools for reporting and planning
  • Plan and execute/support NPI builds

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in fast-paced, NPI, cross-functional environments managing high-volume production programs
  • Understanding of new product development cycles and time-to-market importance
  • Ability to grasp complex technical topics and identify key issues and risks
  • Strong organizational, communication, and record-keeping skills
  • Proficiency with common workplace software
  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience

Responsibilities For Technical Program Manager, Power Electronics

  • Establish and manage programs feature baseline, scheduling, critical path, and technology risks areas for execution
  • Cross-functionally communicate key development updates, risks, and timeline on projects as well as presenting to Tesla Executive team on a weekly basis
  • Identify tactical and creative ways to overcome obstacles while meeting deadlines despite setbacks
  • Develop tools to automate various reporting or planning functions for the Technical Programs Management team
  • Conduct planning and execution/support of NPI builds

Requirements For Technical Program Manager, Power Electronics

  • 3+ years of experience in a fast paced, NPI, cross-functional team orientated environment managing programs for high volume mass production products
  • Demonstrated understanding of new product development cycles and criticality of time-to-market
  • Ability to grasp complex technical topics and abstract key issues and risks in an actionable form
  • Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Skills with common workplace software (word processor, spreadsheet, presentation software etc) with the ability to create and maintain metrics
  • Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience
