As a Staff Engineer, Backend Platform at Zūm, you'll join a dynamic engineering team at their Redwood City headquarters. This hybrid role requires on-site presence 3 days per week (Monday - Thursday), specifically targeting Bay Area-based candidates. You'll be instrumental in architecting and building Zūm's technology platform, working with a team of 2-4 backend developers to deliver high-impact solutions.

You'll be responsible for the full development lifecycle, from architectural design to deployment, focusing on building scalable systems and APIs. Responsibilities For Staff Engineer, Backend Platform

  • Core contributor in designing the architecture of Backend platform
  • Work with 2-4 backend developers to deliver high-quality product features
  • Introduce tools and processes to scale development processes
  • Work with Product and Design team to plan and deliver new product features
  • Improve existing Backend platform while adding new features
  • Own full development lifecycle from ideation to deployment

Requirements For Staff Engineer, Backend Platform

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent)
  • 8+ years of industry experience as a Software Engineer or Staff Engineer
  • Proven experience building backend systems for enterprise-level applications
  • Strong hands-on skills in architectural design and backend development
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases
  • Proficiency in Node.js, Java, or Python
  • Experience deploying and managing applications in cloud environments (AWS or Google Cloud)
  • Experience building scalable systems
  • Proficient in developing APIs for internal and external use
  • Experience with microservice-based architectures
  • Strong technical experience and good coding conventions
  • Good planning, organization, and decision-making skills
  • Good communication with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders
