Software Engineer II Interview Experience - Bengaluru, India

Process

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks.

The shortlisting process at Abnormal AI involved completing a take-home assignment that included both frontend (React.js) and backend (Django) components. A boilerplate project was provided in a zip file, and the task was to implement the requested features outlined in the README.md using AI tools.

Upon completion, I was required to submit the code along with a short video explaining how I leveraged AI during the development. The deadline to complete the assignment was 10 days; however, I was able to finish and submit it within a single day and received proper acknowledgment from the Abnormal AI team confirming receipt.

To my surprise, over two weeks later, I received an email stating that my application was being rejected due to a failure to submit the assignment on time—an accusation that was completely false. I attempted to clarify the situation via email (the only available channel) and received no response.

After sending multiple follow-up emails to address the misunderstanding, I eventually received another rejection—this time from a no-reply email address, still with no acknowledgment of the evidence I had provided or the miscommunication on their part.

This experience was extremely frustrating and disappointing. I invested time and effort into the process and expected at least a basic level of professional courtesy and accountability.

Being ignored after a false accusation and receiving a generic rejection email despite multiple attempts to clarify is not just disheartening—it reflects poorly on the company’s hiring practices. Based on this experience, I would not consider applying again and would advise others to be cautious when engaging with this recruitment process.
