Pros

You might get to work on some really hot projects in the industry and get exposed to really good architectural patterns. Though the senior developers are usually not from the company itself but from either the client or another vendor.

You get the chance to be exposed to a lot of 'negotiations' regarding the features you are building. You need to defend your position and explain to the client why something can or cannot be done a certain way. This helps you grow as a professional and is a really important skill, especially for management and business-like positions.

Cons
  • Really bad salaries.
  • Colleagues from the same company are more often than not accompanied by a culture of elitism against people who are not team members.
  • Fast career advancement seems to only come from pushing for counter offers after you have been made an offer from another company.
