One major gripe is that sometimes a company commits many services to clients before consulting its employees, just to get projects. The team performing groundwork then has to deliver all the commitments, however unreasonable they may be, within strict timelines.
It all depends on the client and the people you work with.
In my experience, there are those who make reasonable commitments, and then there are those who overcommit to clients just to keep the project going. I have had experience with both.
Also, sometimes an employee can be stuck with a technology that isn't relevant anywhere but only to the client. Employees can find themselves stuck working on technology that they may not wish to build a career with; and these frustrations can lead to attrition.
Please do not overcommit to clients. Please consult with the folks doing the groundwork and check the skills that you wish your employees to pursue before allocating them to a project and assigning the work.
If a client offers a project deal, do not accept if your employees need to work with non-relevant technology, which can damage their careers and lead to attrition.
