It depends on the project and the manager with whom you work. My first manager made me work 12 hours a day, but my second one was pretty chilled, good in nature, and so was my team in my second project.
Formal dressing? IT firms work on intellectual assets. The focus should be on generating intellectual assets, not on clothes.
Make sure to put up a system where even employees can review their managers.
