They have career plans and productivity bonuses are not uncommon.
They ask a lot in terms of personal time: long-duration business trips and overtime are commonplace, and if you don't intend to do them, your career is short-lived. In many projects, you end up in a software "assembly line", without an overall view of the project, but only of the small part you are working on.
