Pros
  • Easy to get in as a fresher with no technical skills.
  • Job security. Can stay on for the whole of your career if not focusing on high increments/bonuses. Will get promoted eventually if you find favor with the manager/lead.
  • Moderate work-related stress (depending on project). Some support projects call for night shifts and the like.
Cons

Technical trainings conducted are a big waste of time. Non-technical support and maintenance work are all around. There is a risk of losing all technical skills if one stays here for long. 10-hour shifts even if there is no work. This is meaningless for people on the bench. Appraisals are much too dependent on the impression of the supervisor rather than the actual work performed. Cross-assignments to projects unrelated to the skill set can wreck havoc with your current technology.

Advice to Management

Assign roles fitting the individuals' aptitudes.
