Pros

You'll get to work with a lot of smart people and will have the opportunity to learn about new technologies, as long as you are proactively looking for them. Some projects will provide more flexibility than others. You'll get a lot of job stability in the Federal sector, given the longevity of most Federal contracts.

Cons

On some projects, the culture is deteriorating and leadership is lacking. This leads to poor management decisions when solutioning for a client. The reward for a job well done is more work and more overtime. Sometimes, there's a lot of disregard for personal life, and you will be expected to work weekends regardless of the plans you have. You'll only be promoted to a leadership position (Associate Manager and above) by delegating, not by competency nor accomplishments. Compensation is lacking when compared to the competition.

Advice to Management

Start promoting the right people to management positions, and not just based on politics and delegating skills.

Make sure you compensate your employees competitively.
