Pros

Brand, a Fortune 100 Company. Transport: Free Bus Service for All Employees in India. 5 Months Paid Maternity Leave for Mothers [Due to Govt. of India Directives, not voluntarily].

Cons
  • No work-life balance, I mean it.
  • PIP, Performance Improvement Plan - They can fire you anytime because performance reviews happen quarterly, but hikes happen annually.

So, if you are doing even one thing not as per the manager's wish... swoosh... you are on PIP next quarter, just like that!

This PIP tool is used by managers every time an employee speaks anything for themselves, expresses their opinion. Pip means - a manager decides that you are not working well technically. They put you on PIP and within a month, you are fired, just like that! A career gone.

Common reasons for which they put you on PIP:

  • Your child is sick, you want work from home for, say, one month.
  • You came late sometimes, but you stayed late; nobody notices that. Te heeee!
  • You ask for release from a project as you feel the technology skill is old... BAM PIP!
  • As a girl, you get married, want to move to another city; the project says put her on PIP.
  • You asked for onsite, and then they decide, "Let's put him on PIP." This actually discourages others from asking for onsite.

All of these happened in my team and to other people, I swear to God! Don't fall for brand names, because I did when I joined.

Advice to Management

STOP PIP Tool. It's being misused.

Hear employees' side of the story as well.

Don't believe managers saying, "This employee is not technically good."

Ask that employee to undergo a technical test – objective type.

Then you can decide if an employee is good enough or not.

Bring 360-degree feedback.
