Pros

Awesome investment in new tech with the expectation that everyone does something in the new. Some leadership is great, and if you get a great leader, you have excellent support. Lots of new investment in unconscious bias training and diversity & inclusion.

Cons

Being chargeable is still critical regardless of your situation.

You weigh the team down, and management tries to eagerly find something for you, which may not be the best fit.

If you’re good at networking and make your own effort, you might find something.

The internal project search feature sucks, and it’s almost like a career site black hole.

Advice to Management

Make it easier to find projects. Some internal tools need better UX.

People who are protected (disability, going on leave soon, pregnancy, etc.) should have it made easier for them to still be “useful” and not get slammed with merit-based chargability metrics because they aren’t the right fit for any client project, especially if they’re trying really hard. They shouldn’t weigh down the rest of the team and shouldn’t be cut because they can’t find a project.

Merit-based bonuses shouldn’t negatively impact them either. There should be a separate WBS & internal projects, etc., for that.
