Process

The interview was pretty easy. First, there was a Skype call to meet the interviewer, describe all my experience and current work position, and understand the career paths available at Agoda.

Next, I was given a "homework" task involving a high-load REST application with concurrency problems. It was an interesting task that allowed for considerable thought and the suggestion of various solutions.

After the task, there was another Skype call to discuss my suggested solution and its pros and cons.

A few days later, I was invited to Bangkok for a face-to-face meeting and interview. This was a four-day trip, including a full day dedicated to interviews with four development managers from different teams.

During these interviews, we also discussed my previous experience and career aspirations. We also worked together to solve a variety of random backend API problems and processes, such as "Today everything is working well, and tomorrow we see a huge load, what are we going to do?"

It was a pretty nerve-wracking day, especially for non-native English speakers, but the people were friendly and understanding.

Questions

How would you distribute and limit incoming traffic between several API endpoints, if you have a limit of N million requests per second, and real traffic starts to exceed this value?
