Process

Before the interview, I looked into Airtable and noticed that 99% of the female engineers were of Chinese origin. I didn't have high expectations for passing, as I had read comments on Blind suggesting their preference for certain white men.

During the interview, the interviewer seemed unprepared and struggled to clearly articulate the main goal of the task. She appeared to rely on a solution displayed on her monitor and attempted to compare it to my approach, rather than focusing on problem-solving. It felt like she expected me to replicate the exact code she had.

I believe it's important to highlight that problems can often be solved in multiple ways, and flexibility in thinking is a crucial part of engineering.

Questions

During the interview, the task involved fetching data from an API. However, there was random, unnecessary information included without clear reasoning.

The interviewer struggled to clearly articulate the goal of the task. Ultimately, I had to articulate it myself at the end when I figured it out, as she seemed focused on expecting me to reproduce the exact code she had on her monitor.

The question itself was not clearly or fully explained, but she tried to look smart.
