SDE-2 Interview Experience - Toronto, Ontario

May 1, 2024
Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

The interview process began with a phone screening by a recruiter.

This was followed by an online technical assessment and then a long final interview.

The final interview consisted of four 1-hour sessions with two Engineering Managers and two SDE-2s.

Each interview included two Leadership Principle questions, and the overall technical portion comprised three coding questions and one system design question.

This was a long and grueling process that required taking a full day off work.

Receiving an offer would surely feel relieving, given the drawn-out and stressful nature of the process.

However, if an offer is not extended, it can feel like a waste of time, as no feedback is provided, despite spending hours speaking with interviewers who took notes throughout.

Questions

System Design: Design a Google Docs-type service.

Coding Question: LeetCode-like questions that require you to solve problems mostly with hashmaps (think Two Sum but with an object).

Watch out for questions that are not looking for exact results, but coding styles. If you don't expect them, you can waste a lot of time making assumptions.
