I applied online and received an email with a coding challenge to be completed within 5 days. I completed it on the second day; it included two questions related to sorting and searching, along with explanations for time and space complexity.
Next, I received an email stating we were moving to the next round and asking for my availability, which I provided.
From that point, it was a disorganized process on their end. I spoke with five different recruiters, none of whom had any idea about the position or my standing in the process. Upon checking the job portal, my application status read "no longer under consideration." When I inquired, they replied, "Let’s just keep going and see."
The phone screening involved a DFS question and many behavioral questions related to Amazon's leadership principles.
I was then invited to an on-site/virtual interview consisting of four successive interviews, each lasting around an hour. The first three were a mix of technical questions, again DFS, BFS, and tree-related problems, and one purely behavioral round.
I provided optimal answers to all technical exercises and their follow-up questions, followed the required STAR format for the behavioral questions, and was even told during the first two interviews that I did perfectly. However, during the third interview, the interviewer seemed completely disinterested, looking through her phone while I solved the exercise. She had no idea what I was typing and seemed like she was forced to be there, yet I answered all her questions and more.
After all of this, I received a call the next day informing me that they would not be offering me the position, with no explanation or consideration for the time and effort I invested in the process. It would have saved me a lot of time and effort had they stated from the beginning that they had hired someone else and were looking to recruit me for other teams.
