Process

I applied for several positions at Amazon Worldwide. My resume was subsequently selected for SDE 1 at Amazon Karnataka and SDE 2 at Amazon Ireland.

They sent me an assessment link on HackerRank, which I needed to complete within a week. The online assessment round had two parts:

  1. Two coding questions, with respective solution approaches and complexity analysis, for 105 minutes.
  2. Work time flow questions – mostly work-related behavioral questions – for 15 minutes.

I completed the first coding question and passed all test cases. I also clearly wrote the solution approach and complexity analysis.

For the second coding question, I passed 12 out of 17 test cases and wrote the solution approach and complexity analysis simply. Due to limited time at the end, I couldn't enhance the solution to pass all test cases.

About an hour later, I received an email stating they would not move me forward for this role, and thus, I was rejected.

I thought passing one question completely and another more than 50% would be sufficient to advance to the next round. However, I am unsure if they expect candidates to solve all questions and pass all test cases for every question.

The above explanation applies to both the Karnataka and Ireland location online assessments at Amazon.

Questions

Upgrade Junction Box - Return a sorted list of junction boxes. This question is present in Leetcode as Reorder Data In Logs File.

Optimal Route Pairs - Find the optimal list of route pairs that sums to or less than a given maximum distance allowed to travel. There are pairs of forward and backward routes and a maximum distance that an airplane can travel. We need to find a pair of forward and backward routes whose distance sum is less than or equal to the maximum distance an airplane can travel.
