Pros: Amazon has a great international presence and, as such, employs a vast variety of people. As a result, one meets and interacts with people from myriad backgrounds and nationalities. One gets to travel and experience this multi-national flavour. The company has a very rigorous attitude towards software development. There is a well-established discipline of testing and deployment. Amazonians are very particular about how every feature/upgrade affects the customer, whether internal or external. As a hard-core technology company, it uses state-of-the-art technologies and provides various opportunities in various aspects of software engineering. The company also provides internal training if one wishes to learn some new technology.

Cons: Many teams are split into multiple sub-teams based at different geographical locations, in fact in different countries. The difference in time zones and the inability to conveniently meet face-to-face introduces delays and sometimes, miscommunication. Since every team is mandated to support their software and almost all software is in the form of internal services, every team member has to perform on-call duties for addressing emergency bugs. This can be stressful, as an emergency bug report can come in any time during the day or night. Also, since most teams are small, the on-call rotation is quite frequent.

Pros: I can't think of any pros in the company. If I can think of one thing, it may be salary or benefits, but it's usually for the namesake. Management will try to remove higher-paid employees before huge vesting, unless you are related to management by background or willing to give good feedback to management, even if they are counterproductive to the company. I observed this more often with some managers who came from Capital One across Amazon.

Cons: Bad management. Leadership principles are used against employees who try to do the right thing for the company or their career. Promotions are only given to employees whom management thinks will provide good reviews for their further promotion or related. You may not learn much here in terms of career development. Technologies and tools are internal to Amazon, and won't help a lot outside the company, other than AWS Cloud. Management raises budget concerns during comp review. I have heard the same in many other teams in AWS. People are getting laid off or will be removed by Pivot/PIP for any reason whenever they reach their higher vesting period, unless their salaries are low.

Pros: Great teammates. Great learning. Good salary.

Cons: Sometimes it's tough to meet deadlines.
