Process

  1. Applied through a referral. Did not receive a response for a couple of months.

  2. A recruiter from another team reached out through LinkedIn (she was unaware of the referral). Had a screening call with her and passed.

  3. Took a take-home quiz on the platform. It included two super easy questions on arrays, which I completed and polished in 15 minutes, and a bunch of "Amazon culture fit assessment" questions. All of these were similar, obvious, and basic for any adequate person. It took 40 minutes. Passed.

  4. Had an interview prep session with the recruiter, where she provided materials and asked mock behavioral questions during the call. She counted the number of occurrences of Amazon values mentioned during my responses. It was helpful but strange. At the time of the onsite interview, the recruiter had already left the company.

  5. Virtual onsite interview. There were four rounds: three mixed coding and behavioral, and one mixed system design and behavioral. All coding questions were easy-to-medium level in terms of LeetCode difficulty, and the system design question was also simple. The system design interviewer seemed to not know some tech terms that I used. The last coding round was with the engineering manager and a shadow interviewer. The first three rounds went well. During the fourth round, I got mixed up with array pointers and showed no interest in the company. This likely affected the decision.
