Overall Experience:

I recently interviewed for a Software Engineer position at Amazon Web Services (AWS), and the experience was both challenging and rewarding. AWS is known for its high standards, and the interview process reflected that.

Interview Process Overview:

  • Initial Screening (Phone): The process began with a brief phone screen, where I spoke with a recruiter. It was more of an introduction to the role and a chance for them to gauge my interest in the position. The recruiter was friendly and answered all my questions about the role and the team.
  • Technical Assessment: After passing the initial screen, I was given a technical assessment. This involved solving a coding problem and explaining my approach. The problem was challenging but relevant to the role, and I appreciated that it tested my problem-solving skills rather than just rote knowledge.
  • Technical Interviews (Virtual): The technical interviews were conducted virtually and consisted of two rounds. In these rounds, I was asked to dive deep into technical concepts, system design, and problem-solving. The interviewers were incredibly knowledgeable, and the discussions were engaging. They emphasized not only getting the right answer but also the thought process behind it.
