It's an okay company to work for. I was there for 2 years. There's no work-life balance and no future for DBAs

Pros

A lot of intelligent people are around. You can learn about high-concurrency systems, scaling, and troubleshooting them. It is truly a customer-obsessed company, but not an employee-obsessed one. There are lots of projects. Pay is decent.

Cons

No work-life balance. Growth opportunities are very limited. You will get less time and exposure to learn new features for Oracle DBA.

This frugal concept makes your chances slim to learn new stuff and features. Mostly DBA time goes into moving the database from one box to another due to hardware issues.

Clearly, there is no future for DBAs and Support Engineers in Amazon.

Advice to Management

Have better hardware and don't think employees are liabilities. Those are assets.
