Pros

The name itself: Amazon/AWS.

Variety of career opportunities. Being able to move across teams (with internal loops) is very nice.

Many resources to learn.

If you are in tech, you have a free AWS account to test (with a limit, of course).

Good culture.

Almost everyone is professional and nice.

Cons

The workload varies from team to team.

Like any other workplace, your blocker for growth might be your manager or the team culture. However, what is advertised is shinier than the real thing.

I am not sure about the diversity, openness, and work-life balance.

You need to continuously "raise the bar." This is a nice slogan, but it is a double-edged blade and can be used by different "human" managers in different ways.

Advice to Management
  • Let employees talk freely during their 1:1s.
  • Listen to them carefully.
  • Do not always blame the employee; what they are complaining about might be really true!
