If you find the right team, everything can fall into place. I have great coworkers, we work on interesting challenges, and my work/life balance can be whatever I want it to be. My career growth opportunities are tied to my performance, not tenure like at my previous company. My job function is respected, and I have been able to become an expert in my field.
I've been on other teams where I didn't feel as empowered about my career, what I was working on, and the workload was not manageable.
Keep in mind that internal attrition says something too.
