Pros
  • Good compensation.
  • Interesting problems to solve, including the opportunity to work on scalable solutions.
  • Satisfaction in terms of making a positive impact on customers.
  • Easier to move internally within teams compared to similar tech companies.
Cons
  • Too much bureaucracy and unnecessary process when trying to get work done with external teams.

Priorities don't seem to align with key leadership principles of customer obsession and ownership. If your team has multiple external dependencies, projects move slower.

  • The "Bar Raiser" is over-hyped at Amazon. I have come across below-par engineers in terms of both technical skills and leadership principles.

  • Below average perks and holidays.

Advice to Management
  • Recognition of prior industry experience for new employees, and take it into account for Sr. SDE hire or promotion.
  • Practice what you preach in terms of leadership principles.
