Pros
  1. Lots of opportunity to learn.
  2. You can switch teams if not in a development track.
  3. If you complete 2 years at Amazon as an SDE-2 and are not in a development track, then you have a good chance for Seattle.
  4. The Bangalore office workplace is one of the best in India.
  5. If you land on a good team, then you will get a good opportunity to learn; otherwise, it's kind of support and bug-fix work.
  6. Best pay and stock options in India for your experience.
Cons
  1. Work-life balance is not a reality.

  2. You will get a circular "On Call" (to handle burning issues) depending on the size of the team. If your ping device rings at 4:00 A.M., you have to attend to the issue; otherwise, it will escalate to your manager or skip manager.

  3. There is a process of a development plan or coaching plan. In this, a manager will put you on a development plan if they find that you are lacking in one of Amazon's 14 leadership principles. They will put you on this plan without telling you. You will not be informed if your manager puts you on a development plan. You will know if you want to switch teams.

  4. Every new joining gets a number of Amazon stocks. However, if you don't have the "magic number" which is 20, then in the first year, you will not get any stocks.

Advice to Management

To HR: People should meet with employees every 3 to 4 months because, most of the time, managers don't follow policy.
