Pros

Intelligent people, cutting-edge technology, interesting projects, and a strong sense of ownership given to the engineers.

Cons

Amazon moves incredibly fast as a company.

I constantly feel that the team I am on is stretched too thinly; there is too much work to do for too few people in too short of a time. This structure makes it easy to burn out.

Vesting structure for software engineers is sneaky; Amazon pays a significant sum of your total comp in RSU's (~30% for SDE 1), but the vast majority of it only vests at the end of your third and fourth years at the company. It's a mechanism designed to retain talent at the company. Admittedly, it's something that made me consider staying.

Advice to Management

Ensure you have enough engineers to meet the demand and deadlines for the products you are building.
