Advice to Management

The skills I was interviewed for were not the skills I needed for my role. I think I was added to a team that needed a person, and so I was pushed that direction, even though my skills were not a good fit. It took me a few months to realize that it wasn't just the onboarding process; I was really not a good fit. But when I started trying to switch teams, my manager blocked me, and I had to grind it out until I was finally, blessedly, let go (I was debating quitting, but thankfully got severance instead).

Let's be more honest and upfront about what skills are needed and what daily work entails. I didn't get to work on any of the stuff they enticed me with. Instead, I just worked on maintaining an old service and doing constant on-call rotations since we had a small team. Be honest, and you won't be surprised when you've wasted $100,000+ on a bad fit.

Also, I don't really appreciate how customer obsession comes at the cost of the employees but at great benefit to those at the top.
