Pros

People were really smart and talented.

There was pretty much a limitless amount of work that computers/automation could improve.

Lots of opportunities to be creative.

Cons

On-call rotation was horrible. It really depends on what team you're on. I was on one of the bad teams. There is a weekly rotation for each member of the team, and I joined a team that had an average of a page every day (which could happen in the middle of the night, even weekends).

But if you're on a team that's a new product or one without a strict SLA, you're OK.

People worked a little too hard.

Advice to Management

On-call rotation has caused good talent to leave.
