Pros
  • Unparalleled career growth
  • High compensation
  • Less bureaucracy
  • Easy to switch teams
  • Industry leader in cloud
  • Good peers
  • Good build systems/dev tooling
Cons

Your experience is very team/manager dependent, especially on-call rotations.

  • High manager churn: 3 in the last calendar year alone (some have no direct manager).
  • Constant re-orgs: 5 in the last 2 years in my department.
  • Unpopular mandates from C-suite leadership damage morale (RTO), followed by layoffs.
  • "Just do it" culture can lead to interruptions via DM, emails, or random meetings during high-priority work.
Advice to Management

I see brain drain and low morale as a result of all of these re-orgs and RTO mandates. My team is distributed, so we have not benefited from RTO. Instead, many of my peers, who worked remotely for over three years, have been forced to relocate or make long commutes. In addition to this, many have been moved to different office locations, and some have had their access restricted. The stream of people moving is causing gaps in our knowledge.
