Pros
  • Good compensation.
  • You can chalk out things to learn; there are teams for almost everything.
  • State-of-the-art technology in place.
  • You can learn good leadership principles that you can still utilize post-leaving Amazon. It is a good learning experience, mainly non-technical.
Cons

You don't get to see at a very low level how things work. This is true for both technology and business aspects. Uneven distribution of work at times. Office politics, but it is largely dependent on the team you are in. There are some amazing teams with good management and some teams with a mix of good and bad. Not all teams operate up to the high bar of Amazon. There's an imbalance between the bars maintained by different orgs. Good compensation but no luxurious benefits like other FAANG companies.

Advice to Management

Invent ways to narrow communication gaps and remove processes that have become obsolete.

Adopt ways to cut off politics and employ extremely talented people who prove an asset in the long run, rather than a short-sighted attempt of desperate hiring which reduces overall quality and starts the vicious circle of slowly lowering the team bar and system efficacy.
