It’s amazing to work with world-class engineers on problems that are challenging in technical scope and scale, and delivering these improvements always feels super rewarding.
I wish there was a bigger push from upper management to lower for experimenting with non-radically innovative stuff. It’s easier to do this in other organizations, but in retail, it’s very difficult to follow up on a crazy idea and make it a reality because of constant pushes from product.
Always allocate 15-20% of the engineering capacity to crazy projects which won’t necessarily make it to market. You’d be surprised at how smart the people we hire are.
