Great pay - lousy experience

Pros

Interns get paid a crazy amount, and also a housing/relocation stipend (I got this even though the virus necessitated remote internships in 2020).

I got a lot of good experience with in-demand technologies, AWS in particular.

Cons

My internship was remote, which made it hard for me to get a complete picture, but I found Amazon's work culture to be very overbearing.

Work-life balance is given lip service, but at the end of the day, you are expected to make your work into your life.

The possibility of getting a return offer (or threat of not getting one) was used to get interns to work themselves as hard as possible.

My job was also made unnecessarily difficult by an uncooperative mentor that constantly gave off the air of wanting to do anything but interact with me.

Advice to Management

Interns come to you to learn, gain experience, and get a feel for the company culture – not to be treated like code monkeys that need to compete for return offers.
