Managers are hit or miss. I've worked with managers that I could be best friends with, and I've also worked with managers that were super toxic. Don't stay in teams that have toxic managers; leave! Nothing good will come out of it.
The compensation structure is laughable. It doesn't promote excellence; it promotes a rest-and-vest mentality. In the short term, this looks frugal, which aligns well with Amazon's most important leadership principle. But in reality, it pushes top performers out of the company. In the long term, this is catastrophic for Amazon, as it not only leads to lost tribal knowledge but also means that Amazon needs to pay significantly more than other top tech companies to attract talent.
