You get to work with and learn from some very talented engineers willing to share a lot of valuable experience.
Managers are often under a lot of pressure in a number of ways that are ultimately detrimental to the working environment for ICs.
Incidentally, there is a very high turnover rate at the company.
The leadership principles go both ways. Don't use them as a bludgeon on your directs while not meeting the same bar yourself.
