High ceiling if you don't care about work/life balance. Lots of smart coworkers. Amazon stock is good.
Many decisions will be made way above your head and handed down by diktat. Hope you are okay with “that's how we do it here” as a justification for technical decisions.
You will be expected to wake up in the middle of the night to solve problems other people created.
Engineers don't receive the same benefits as other big tech companies:
- No free food
- No gym or other lifestyle perks
- No discounts
- Limited assistance with parking, etc.
It is hard to get noticed for promotion unless you push to one-up your teammates.
Treat engineers like valuable knowledge workers instead of replaceable technicians.
