Working at Amazon was a fantastic opportunity to learn from some of the best software engineers in the world. The breadth of problems tackled at Amazon is staggering, and I felt that the work I was doing really mattered. Management was fair and reasonable, and the overall culture was friendly, if competitive.
It is very hard to maintain a good work-life balance. There is very little opportunity for flexible employment, and the nature of the business often requires working at abnormal hours.
Continue with internal investment to automate as much as possible, reducing pressure on employees. Company benefits should be revised: a small Amazon discount is not helpful in a location where the cost of shipping negates the benefit. Be more flexible in terms of part-time or remote positions.
