Pros
  1. Internal mobility is quite flexible; transferring between different teams is relatively straightforward.

  2. There are solid technical learning opportunities within many AWS teams where you can work on large-scale projects.

  3. Ironically, in the current macroeconomic climate, Amazon's notorious PIP process is actually more accommodating for visa holders than the sudden, abrupt terminations seen at other tech companies, as it provides a crucial buffer period to figure out your next steps.

Cons

Outside of AWS, the quality of work in many teams can be quite frustrating. A history of "empire building" has left behind highly redundant internal infrastructure and services. This leads to endless migration projects, massive overhead and complex dependencies when building new features, and a heavy reliance on hard-to-use internal tools.

It suffers from typical big-tech systemic issues—most notably, a rigid stack-ranking culture and managers wielding disproportionate, almost unchecked power over your career trajectory.
