Pros

There is clear career direction and growth, which is offered via documents that indicate how to get promoted and what qualities you need.

The work environment is a meritocracy. If you back up your ideas with reason, people will listen.

There are many opportunities for learning, growth, and achievement. You just need to show some initiative.

Cons

The management is hit or miss. There are some managers who really know what they are doing, and they get promoted rather quickly. There are other managers who are not that great, and they eventually get promoted because of the results they command from their team.

It can take a big effort to convince management their plan is not good.

Advice to Management

Take care of your direct reports and set reasonable goals. A happy worker is more willing to put in the extra effort to complete a project on time if timelines slip.
