It is a very good place to start your career, as it will give you opportunities to get familiarized with various cloud services, scalability, and distributed systems.
Operational pain is one of the worst things at Amazon.
Also, to get promoted is like waiting forever.
To get a good project, you would either have to get a good team that is working on some new stuff, or you would be waiting forever.
