Pay is great. Sometimes there is a break. Generally, managers are understanding and do want to help you.
There's no single point of authority. My first team was great since it was smaller, but I'm now in a larger department where there is constant iteration since engineers think they have all the say in every decision.
If you are going to hire PM and UX, stop letting engineers dictate all conversations. Make sure one or a few people actually know what's going on.
